BEST OF 2010

Hey everyone. I've gotten so far behind so I'd like to apologize for the lateness of the blog entries. I'm currently finishing my first year of graduate/pharmacy school and with all of the tests I've gotten pretty behind. Thanks for your patience though and I'm excited to move into summer where I don't have all the deadlines and tests to study for.

Great submissions to everyone that participated. You should be proud of yourselves. I've included in this post all the newly reviewed submissions; anything not included in this post can be found on the nominations post. Thank you for your continued participation throughout the year of 2010 and into 2011. I'm hoping to get the blog up and running as soon as I finish my last final in two weeks. You guys are the best.

  1. Wow, Nate. You stayed up late to do this! I like where you're taking your illustration...the colored lines and the colors you chose...I'd try having your green less saturated on the viking (more grey) And I'm excited to see where you take this.

Kristi, way to stick to a traditional medium! I can see you worked on the anatomy and I really like her modesty, which is rarely seen in mermaids. Love how you handled the rock, waves, and added the starfish touch...were the color choices inspired by Mary Blair? - nice choice of the off white paper as well. All I have to say more at this point is keep it up, and if there are anatomy pieces you struggle drawing (or even if you feel fairly confident) - start drawing from live models, whether it be pictures of yourself, your girls, husband, etc!

On mine, I'd like to play a bit more with the red in his rendering...I don't think I quite hit the result I'm looking for yet.

  2. I did stay up late and decided not to study. Ouch! I'll figure out how to compensate somehow. I needed a break in favor of artistic endevors.

Scott, I enjoyed the textures and colors of your piece and the limited color choices you used. Very good piece.

Kristi, you have improved your piece a lot and I was happy to see it when you first submitted it. Great work. I agree with Scott's positive comments. You've come a long way and thank you for participating as much as you do with a troop of girls keeping you busy. (She also mentioned when she submitted that she had issues with her scanner so she had to take a picture instead. I'd be interested to see how that changed the colors.)

Mine, thanks Scott for the color advise. Yeah I still have work to do but for now I'm okay with that and I'm dying to have some more time after I finish with these next two finals weeks. Overall, thank you everyone for participating over the last year and a half.
